It’s time for a throwback to re:publica Berlin 2022, the festival for the digital society, which we attended from June 8th to 10th. With its striking motto “Any Way the Wind Blows”, this festival highlighted some interesting speakers, performers, and creators of the digital era with conferences, short talks, and lots of impressive booths.

We were delighted to demonstrate our Augmented Reality tour in collaboration with “Stolpersteine NRW”, a project developed by the Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR), the German public-broadcasting institution of the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

You may have stumbled upon some small brass memorial plaques embedded in Europe’s streets…? Well, this innovative project provides people with a digital interactive approach to the topic of National Socialism (Nazism) by following the Stolpersteine stones throughout Germany. Each stone is located in front of the last freely chosen residence of a person who was persecuted or murdered by the Nazi terror regime. WDR created a (web) app which highlights the life of these victims with pictures, audio guides, videos and some 3D objects.

At ZAUBAR, we came with the idea to enhance the commemoration experience with AR tours in order to provide users with a completely immersive experience. We are super eager to have the opportunity to continue developing our tours with WDR and bring those stories to life!

To make it short, re:publica’s program was very full, we discovered so much about technology and society, met some great people and found some new inspiration for future projects. The wind led us through this thrilling experience that we won’t soon forget!
